This species is one of our favorites and deserves much more attention! It is endemic to a stratovolcanic complex in northern Sumatra where it derives it's name (lavicola - growing upon lava). As a close relative of the amazing N. spectabilis it features the same striped peristome, with pitchers of similar size and shape but a much deeper red body. The first image shows a larger pitcher from a seed-grown plant. While it's not exactly the same as the plant for sale, we believe it will look very similar with the dark red body and striped peristome.
